This winter, only three US airports have nonstop flights to India: New York JFK, Newark and San Francisco. Every other US city needs one stop, and from many cities a one-stop through the Gulf is the quickest way to get home. Below, you will find the answer for your city, how long the journey takes, and what business class looks like on each route.
The routes are the same in every cabin. Where it matters, we point out what changes when you fly business class. BusinessTravel365 is a US-based business and first class booking partner: our experienced travel advisors compare routes, airlines and fares for each trip and stay in touch from booking to return.
Nonstop service between the US and India changed a lot in 2026. Airspace restrictions, longer flight paths, higher fuel costs and aircraft refits led airlines to pause or reduce several routes over the summer. Most have returned for winter, but not all.
Nonstop routes operating for winter 2026:
New York JFK to Delhi: Air India and American Airlines, about 14 hours
New York JFK to Mumbai: Air India, about 15 hours
Newark to Delhi: United and Air India, about 14 hours
San Francisco to Delhi: Air India, about 16 hours
Routes that are not flying nonstop this winter:
Chicago to Delhi (Air India and United)
Washington Dulles to Delhi (Air India, paused since September 2025)
San Francisco to Mumbai and San Francisco to Bengaluru (Air India)
Schedules were checked in October 2026. Airlines can change them at short notice, so always confirm the routing before you book.
Many people search for direct flights, but airlines use "direct" to mean one flight number from start to finish. A direct flight can still land on the way.
On the longest US–India routes, some flights have made a short refuelling stop on the way, for example in Kolkata on the San Francisco to Delhi route. You stay on the same aircraft, but the journey takes longer, and on some stops you may need to leave the aircraft for a short time.
Before you book, check that the flight details say "nonstop" or "0 stops", not just "direct". If you are booking for parents or older travellers, this detail matters even more.
Air India flies nonstop from San Francisco to Delhi, about 16 hours. It is one of the longest flights in the world, so the seat matters more than usual. Air India is refitting its long-haul cabins, and the business class seat on your flight depends on which aircraft is used.
For Mumbai or Bengaluru, there is no nonstop this winter. You can fly nonstop to Delhi and connect within India, or take one stop through a Gulf hub such as Dubai or Doha, which flies directly to many Indian cities.
JFK has the most nonstop choice. Air India and American Airlines fly to Delhi in about 14 hours, and Air India flies to Mumbai in about 15 hours. American Airlines offers its Flagship Business cabin on this route, and Air India's business class depends on the aircraft.
United flies nonstop from Newark to Delhi in about 14 hours, with its Polaris business class, and Air India has also returned to the route. For travellers in New Jersey and the wider New York area, this is often the simplest way to Delhi and northern India.
Chicago to Delhi has been the least reliable route in 2026, and neither Air India nor United is flying it nonstop this winter. Most Chicago travellers now choose between a short flight to New York or Newark followed by a nonstop to Delhi, or one stop through Doha, Dubai or a European hub. Total journey time is usually 18 to 22 hours.
There are no nonstop flights from Dallas to India. Emirates and Qatar Airways both fly from Dallas to their Gulf hubs, then on to many Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kochi. Total journey time is usually 20 to 22 hours. Both airlines offer fully flat business class seats, although the seat type varies by aircraft.
Houston is similar to Dallas. Emirates and Qatar Airways connect Houston with many Indian cities through Dubai and Doha, in roughly 20 to 22 hours. This is usually quicker than flying to the East Coast first and connecting there.
From Atlanta, you can fly one-stop through Doha with Qatar Airways, or through a European hub such as London, Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. The Gulf route usually reaches more Indian cities with a single connection; a European route can suit travellers who want a daytime connection.
There is no nonstop from Seattle to India. Emirates flies from Seattle to Dubai with onward flights to most major Indian cities. Another option is a short flight to San Francisco and the nonstop to Delhi.
Los Angeles has no nonstop to India. The main options are a short flight to San Francisco for the nonstop to Delhi, one stop through Dubai or Doha, or one stop through an Asian hub. For southern India, a Gulf or Asian connection often avoids a second flight within India.
From Boston, a short flight to New York or Newark followed by a nonstop to Delhi or Mumbai is often the fastest option. Emirates and Qatar Airways also fly from Boston to their Gulf hubs with onward connections across India.
Air India's nonstop from Washington Dulles to Delhi has been paused since September 2025. Travellers from the DC area usually connect through Newark or JFK, or fly one stop through a Gulf or European hub.
From cities such as Raleigh, Phoenix, Denver, Orlando or Charlotte, you will connect once. You can connect in the US and take a nonstop to India, or connect abroad. The right choice depends on connection times, arrival time in India and the business class seat on each flight.

When there is no nonstop from your city, the next decision is where to connect.
Through the Gulf (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi):
Usually the shorter total journey, because the Gulf is close to India
Direct onward flights to many Indian cities, not just Delhi and Mumbai
Several flights a day, which gives more options if a schedule changes
Connections are often late at night
Through Europe (London, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Munich):
Usually a longer total journey to India
Onward flights mainly to the largest Indian cities
Can offer a daytime connection or a planned stopover
Indian passport holders may need an airport transit visa in some European airports; many holders of a valid US visa are exempt, but the rules differ by country

If you live near JFK, Newark or San Francisco, a nonstop is usually the easiest option. A one-stop can still be the better choice in some situations.
Parents and older travellers: a nonstop means one boarding and one arrival, which many prefer. Others find 14 to 16 hours in one go tiring and prefer a break. Book wheelchair or airport assistance for every flight on the ticket, and check the arrival time in India.
Families going to southern India: a Gulf one-stop can fly directly to Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru or Kochi, which avoids a domestic flight after a long journey.
Business travellers: on the main New York and Newark routes, nonstops have been the most dependable in 2026. If your dates may change, the fare rules matter more than a small difference in price.

Two flights sold as business class on the same airline can have very different seats. Some airlines are refitting older cabins, and older seats may not be fully flat or may not give every passenger direct aisle access. Before you book, check the aircraft type and seat on each flight.
